The labor market has changed dramatically since the start of China’s economic reform. China’s economy has been growing at an unprecedented rate. As a result, businesses in China have experienced changes in organizational structure, in business objectives and in China’s legislations. At the same time, there have been drastic changes in educational and experience levels of workers, as well as in the social fabric and value system.
Career development is critical for talents retention because it is often at the top of the minds of most employees… How could one plan one's own career effectively? This issue becomes more acute as one moves up the career ladder. How can one moves up the career ladders quickly and still be able to acquire all the necessary skills and experience to be a effective manager, and continue to march forward in one's career. This problem is exacerbated by being employed by a multi-national company…we have seen many cases of managers sitting on top of a Chinese organization of an MNC at a relatively young age only to ponder what's next.
Effective mentoring can help alleviate one's anxiety in career development. But effective mentoring can do much more than that. It can help a person to better understand his/her strengths and weaknesses so that he/she can better exploit his/her strength and work on strengthening his/her weaknesses. Effective mentoring can help a person to better understand the culture of his/her company. It can also help a person to be able to look at an issue from multiple angles so that a better decision can be made. The need for effective mentoring is something that most company managements talk about. It is, however, very illusive at the same time.
In this workshop, we will discuss and explore how a business can better retain its talents through effective application of tools, and how effective career development can be achieved and good mentorship can be acquired.
